Foster Heart + Hope has partnered with renowned Atlanta artist Arshaad Norwood to transform a 56-foot gym wall into a trauma-informed masterpiece, drawing from Norwood's own lived experience in foster care.

Omaha, NE — June 7, 2026 — Foster Heart + Hope, a local nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth impacted by foster care, is thrilled to announce a transformative community mural project led by renowned Atlanta-based contemporary artist with lived experience in foster care, Arshaad Norwood. Running from June 9 to June 17, the project will culminate in a vibrant community-wide unveiling celebration on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

The community-informed mural will completely transform a blank 56-foot by 25-foot wall inside Foster Heart + Hope’s gym, located at 7010 ½ Q Street. The gym serves as a central gathering space for the organization’s daily programming, play, and critical fundraising events. By replacing a stark, empty wall with vibrant imagery, the project will establish a trauma-informed, welcoming environment designed specifically to uplift children, teens, and young adults impacted by foster care.

"Ultimately, this mural is more than art; it is an investment in the emotional architecture of Foster Heart + Hope," says Amber, [Founder & Executive Director] of Foster Heart + Hope. "We are creating a space that radiates dignity, beauty, and belonging for every child and caregiver who walks through our doors. This project will serve as a model for trauma-informed environmental design across our entire space while elevating youth voices and expanding community awareness."

Graceland Mural

@Christian City Childrens Home

In 2020, amid the chaos of the pandemic, a group of alumni from my former foster home reached out with a heartfelt request that I create a mural for the newly renovated Graceland thrift store. Fast forward three years, and I found myself sitting down with new CEO Keith Horton to dive into detailed discussions about the mural’s theme, design, timeline, and all the intricate project logistics that would need careful attention. Once the concept received the green light, we eagerly shared the approved design with Atlanta News First, the AJC, and ArtsATL to kick off promotional efforts. Although the project encountered a few unexpected delays along the way, the Graceland Mural Project ultimately became a tremendous success, involving over 100 Hands on Atlanta volunteers — including members of the Georgia State Women’s Basketball team — and leaving a lasting, celebratory piece for the community.
